So often people can forget how endless Christ’s mercy is for us. It’s easy to feel like you don’t measure up and get stuck in a cycle of self-loathing, self-pity, and keep your distance from God. But that’s not what God wants. He sent His son so that there would be an unbreakable connection between our human inadequacy and His sufficiency. In Galatians 2:21 (MSG) it says ” I am not going to go back on that. Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God? I refuse to do that, to repudiate God’s grace. If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.”
It’s important to remember that religion is not what Christ died for. He died for a relationship. And we need to remember that despite all of our shortcomings His mercy is new every morning and there is not enough “unclean” in us to ruin what is “clean” in Him.
