John 10:

27 My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand. 29 The Father who put them under my care is so much greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever get them away from him. 30 I and the Father are one heart and mind.”

This verse is a good reminder in so many ways:

1. Jesus and the Father know you. That in and if itself is crazy right? Out of all the millions of people, species of animals, insects, etc They know YOU. And that is why They want you to know Them in an intimate way where you are so close in community that you recognize Their Voice and follow.

2. I remember in a Bible study years ago someone being concerned about their salvation. They asked Jesus into their heart, believed, but still had doubt that they could be in Heaven. We all fall, we all struggle, and through God’s grace we learn how to be better. We don’t stop sinning but we are renewed daily. And we grow. This verse proves that we are never let go. You are protected for life. You are kept safe by the Shepard. Though the wolves may come around and howl and frighten you, they can never take you. Jesus goes on to emphasize that even more so by saying that God entrusted Jesus to look after us and that He is in agreement with all Jesus says. It’s not like we’re accepted by Jesus but His dad doesn’t like us. Right? It’s important to remember that Satan is mad that He can’t have us. But being the Destroyer He will still try to steal our peace and joy about our safety in the flock.

3. Jesus doesn’t say anything that isn’t true and God and Jesus are of one heart and one mind. They aren’t playing the role of Mom and Dad where one parent is the softie and the other is the enforcer. This isn’t good cop/ bad cop. They agree with each other and feel for their children equally. They aren’t in disagreement with each other.

Today remember to be still. Practice hearing God’s voice. If you don’t hear Him ask for clarity. Ask Him to speak to you today in a way that you can’t miss. I’m sure He has something He’s been trying to say.
