SOAP 8.4.17

Good morning!⠀

This morning I had my tea and am ready to dive into a SOAP for you guys.⠀

The inspiration for this, is from my August 4th post from 2014. You can find that post linked to the one today in the link in my bio! Double the fun.

For those who don’t know, SOAP stands for:⠀

Scripture⠀
Observation⠀
Application⠀
Prayer⠀

Scripture: 1 Peter 3:3-4 (ERV)

It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful.
No, your beauty should come from inside you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.
That beauty will never disappear.
It is worth very much to God.

Observation: Inner beauty is worth more to God than outer beauty.

Application: Any time I have a bad hair day, worry about what I look like, or what others see, I can remember God sees me from the inside.

Prayer: God, help us not to think of ourselves in a shallow way when it comes to beauty. Let us focus on ways to make our inner self the most beautiful. Amen.

Community Feature – restfortheweary

One of my new initiatives is to hear from my followers in a way that directly meets them on their journeys.

On Instagram I encourage you to tag your posts with #UnfilteredChristianWomen so I can see what everyone is up to and feature topics that they are currently thinking about or needing feedback on.

My goal will always be to write a blog post each month on a topic from my own heart BUT I also want to make room for another post that same month directly addressing a topic found via Instagram using the community hashtag.

This month I am featuring a post from: @restfortheweary *

“it is OKAY to ask for help when you need it, dear heart. if you’re tired, rest. if you’re hungry, eat. if you’re scared, pray. the Lord is always there.
praying for all of you who are suffering alongside me. “

So many times we can feel like being a Christian is being strong. Being a mentor to other broken people and overall simply being the strong one with unshakeable faith and optimism. But sometimes we need to remember that we were never asked to do life alone. That it’s okay to need rest or to suffer. You aren’t alone and most of the time it’s just the way of the world and not necessarily that you are doing anything to provoke it.

SOAP 7.14.17

Good morning!⠀

This morning I had my tea and am ready to dive into a SOAP for you guys.⠀

For those who don’t know, SOAP stands for:⠀

Scripture⠀
Observation⠀
Application⠀
Prayer⠀

Scripture: Psalm 3:2-6

Many are saying of me,
    “God will not deliver him.”

But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.

I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
    assail me on every side.

Observation: There will always be “haters”, “naysayers” and people who don’t believe the best for you.

Application: No matter what voice you hear, trust that God’s voice has the final say. We do not have to fear even if 10,000 people try to tear us down because God is above it all.

Prayer: God, help us to hear your thundering voice louder and more clear than a 10,000 human voices. Amen.

Waiting

I wrote an article for Imperishable Beauty about this topic here. And I still find myself in the waiting.

Maybe you find yourself here too. It could be waiting to find the right person. Waiting to get pregnant. Waiting on God to speak to you about something. Waiting for your breakthrough. In many different ways, we are all waiting on something.

For me, it’s a combination. My greatest “wait” at the moment is for a job. I am qualified for the hundred-plus positions I’ve applied for. I have been liked by the several phone interviews I’ve picked up my cell phone for. And yet you wait and wait and wait.

I don’t have a step-by-step God formula for you to follow. If I did, I wouldn’t even charge you anything to get it! Ha! But the fact remains we are all different. We respond to different things in a different way. We have different trials and hopes and likes and dislikes and I would guess what would work for me will probably not work for you.

But in the waiting. I can encourage you, maybe not in the same exact situation, that I am there too. You are not being punished by God. You are not the only one waiting for a breakthrough.

Sending you prayers of hope, and patience, and love.

xo, Jess

SOAP 7.4.17

Good morning!⠀

This morning I had my tea and am ready to dive into a SOAP for you guys.⠀

For those who don’t know, SOAP stands for:⠀

Scripture⠀
Observation⠀
Application⠀
Prayer⠀

Scripture: Romans 12:12 NIV

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

Observation: Joyful? Nope. Patient? Nope. Faithful..maybe.

Application: Realistically when I’m going through the garbage in life I give myself a week before I start to lose my joy, my hope, my patience. It’s like everything gets sucked out. And that’s in my own strength. I’m not the worst person in the world for admitting this right?

Prayer: God, you know my heart. You know I feel strongly and hurt deeply. I’m asking you to give me hope when I can’t find it. Joy when I don’t feel it. Patience when I lose it. And the words to pray when all I want to do is cry. You are my hope. I can’t do this alone.

“Gratitude isn’t the result of getting what you want. It’s the result of loving what you have.”

I think it’s SO good to be grateful. So often we can fall into the trap of ME ME ME or WANT WANT WANT. Being grateful helps keep us grounded.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 makes it very clear: in everything give thanks

It’s super easy to give thanks for the good things, but difficult to give thanks in the bad. Especially in my current season of being out of work, it’s really hard. Harder than I thought it would be to remain happy and hopeful and GRATEFUL.

But gratitude changes things.

Let’s remember to enter His courts with thanksgiving today.
